Opening the box.....

I've been meaning to do this for a while.

I'm very good at meaning to do things, and never quite getting round to it - things like phoning people, cleaning the house, writing a novel, becoming overlord of the universe.....you know, just those everyday chores that clutter your diary and get in the way of actually enjoying life. Well, spring's here, so I thought I'd actually do something for a change. And here it is....

Maybe it'll be yet another of those things that I start and never finish, something that just ends up sitting gathering dust on a server somewhere, neglected and unloved. Who knows....come back in a few weeks and check if you like.

Hello virtual world, how are you today?

Actually I did write a novel once, but it was crap and so went on to a far more meaningful existence as kindling. Just thought you might like to know that.

One of the things I'll be doing here, besides pontificating endlessly about absolutely nothing whatsoever, is talking about the tunes that are doing it for me at the moment. Out there in the real world (as opposed to this binary virtual world) I work as head of music at a community radio station and I have to listen to an awful lot of dire sh**e, so this is somewhere I can actually promote the good stuff without having to answer to my boss or kiss some pluggers arse....

Here's a few to get the ball rolling:

Kosma "Small Swinging Istanbul" (INFRACom 12")

Everybody's going mad for the lush detroit sound of the a-side (called "Heliocentric") but it's the broken polka on the flip that really does the business - like having a casbah disco in your living room.

New Cool Collective "Perry" (Freestyle 12")

Upbeat latin jazz for the dancefloor - just lovely.

Gabin featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater "Into My Soul (Nicola Conte Jazz Combo Version)" (Virgin 12")

If you come back, you'll hear a lot about Nicola Conte, the Don from Bari (Italy). More dancefloor jazz the way he does best. This seriously ROCKS!

Now maybe I should go and do that washing up....
